Featured Artist in the Ocala Civic Theatre lobby:

Nancy Moskovitz, Portrait Painter

People sometimes characterize an artist as a wild and wacky person. And some are. But there are artists who are as gentle as a summer breeze, as soft-spoken as the gentlest of gentlewomen. Such an artist is Nancy Moskovitz; her personality is reflected in her enchanting portraits.

Nancy Moskovitz is the featured artist in the Ocala Civic Theatre lobby during the November presentation of "Over the River and Through the Woods", a comedy about family relationships. Fittingly, Nancy's artwork is about family too. Her artistry focuses mainly on portraits; she has a special talent for capturing the bright innocence of children.

A letter from one of her grateful clients, Ocalan Lynne Colley, says it best:

"You captured their spirit, their emotions, their childhood. I can forever gaze upon

these portraits and embrace my children, one by one." Lynne goes on to say admiringly that Nancy corralled the mischief mixed with innocence in her six year old, balanced the pensiveness with the playfulness of the ten year old, and caught the tentative look of the eight year old as she performs on the piano.

All of that glowing youth is preserved by a talented artist with a combination of watercolor and pastel painting. Nancy Moskovitz graduated with honors in 1970 from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts with a major in elementary education and a minor in art history. She continued her art education at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston and then at Santa Fe C.C. in Gainesville as well as in many workshops with nationally known artists.

Taking time out to raise her own children, Nancy returned to art in 1996 as the all-grades art teacher at Cornerstone School in Ocala and as a portrait artist. Since then she has won numerous awards and honors locally and was one of the Horse Fever artists. She is a member of the Ocala Art Group, the Florida Watercolor Society, the Citrus Watercolor Club, the Nature Coast Painters and the Marion Art Educators Association. In all these venues, Nancy Moskovitz is a prize winning artist. See her work at the Ocala Civic Theater.
